strawberryseared strawberryIt’s strawberry season!  Growing up in Ventura County, home to the Strawberry Capital of the World, I ate more than my fair share of these ruby gems.  The sweetest and juiciest come from Harry’s Berries, which can be found at local farmer’s markets around LA and the VC this time of year.  They are the best!  Just sublime.  For not so sublime berries (like the tasteless bunch I picked up from a grocery store recently), I’ll sometimes do a quick sear to bring out some sweetness.  Seared strawberries are a great, summery addition to many dishes.  Try them in a salad with toasted hazelnuts & goat cheese or with balsamic-glazed chicken or atop your favorite ice cream.  Eat more berries and eat them now!
